Green Anole Care Sheet
INTRODUCTION: Green Anoles are one of the most popular and common species of lizards kept as pets. they are also called American Chameleons because of there ability to change colors. They are a beutiful and cool little lizard to keep. Anoles are not something that should be handeled because there very fast and stress easy. They are ment for a display animal.
HOUSING + SUBSTRATE: Anoles are aboreal lizards which means they spend most of there time off the ground. When housing an aboreal lizard like an anole the height is more important then the length or width of the cage. 1 or 2 anole tops are okay in a 10 gallon but your much better of going with a 16 high or bigger. Substrates that can be used are newspaper,paper towels,reptile carpet,repti-bark,cypress mulch,or coco fiber. Only 1 male anole to a cage and as many females are fine. Anoles should have plenty of fake plants and places to hide to make them feel secure and the cage look good.
HEATING + LIGHTING: Daytime temps should be 84 to 86 degrees with a hot spot reaching around 94 degrees. Nightime temps can drop to 72 to 76 degrees. Anoles need UVB or natural,unfiltered sunlight to help with calcium metabolizing.
FOOD + WATER: Anoles are insectivores which means they eat insects. Gut loaded crickets are the preffered diet for anoles. The crickets should be dusted with a calcium powder with vitimain D3 in it 1 or 2 times a month. Anoles very rarely drink out of a standing water dish and tend to drink off the leaves and the glass,so a good misting should be done atleast once a day for drinking and to help with humidity.
